In 2018, Insomniac Games broke the market by releasing Spider-Man, a game that expresses what it means to be a superhero incredibly well. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a fantastic game where you play as Peter Parker in his prime, fighting crime and juggling your obligations with an unsteady social life.
The game features intense, high-speed combat that is incredibly satisfying once you get the hang of it. Web-slinging has never been better, with improved physics and better functionality. The open “world” of NYC is brimming with life and is just begging to be explored. Overall, it is one of the best PS4 exclusives to ever come out, and you should play it immediately.
To make things even better, the same company released a new Spider-Man game with the protagonist being Miles Morales, a young man in a similar situation to Peter’s. The game is fantastic and encompasses every good thing about its predecessor and delivers it in a way that is both fresh and exciting.
Some people tend to worry that skipping the original game would hinder their progress in the next one. We are going to let you know if you should play the original Spider-Man before Miles Morales!
Should I Play The Original Spider-Man Before Miles Morales?
Yes. The original game can be considered a masterpiece and it ties in very well with Miles’ origin story, making the general story complete. It would be a shame not to experience both of the games in full. For that reason we recommend playing the original before Miles Morales.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
The original Marvel’s Spider-Man is set in New York City and its protagonist is Peter Parker, a 23-year old scientist, and occasional web-slinger. The story follows his journey across New York looking to stop crime and fight criminals. There is a main story to follow to get to the end of the game, but you are completely free to roam the open world and satisfy those completionist urges.

The combat is spectacular and exciting, with constant action. As you progress through the game, you will earn experience points and gain access to modifications for your suit and gadgets, and even some completely new suits with special powers. There is a great feeling of satisfaction you get upon completing a quest or finding a new item, so anyone can jump in and just enjoy the game!
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
The story of Miles Morales is told through the eyes of a rambunctious teen who loves to have fun and improve his skills. Miles is bitten by a spider, much in the same way as Peter, but his powers are a bit different. In addition to all of Peter’s abilities, Miles also has the option of generating bio-electric shocks from his body, effectively making him a conduit of energy.

This has many combat implications on top of looking awesome. Like the original game, Miles Morales also has a coherent storyline to follow, but the open-world exploration is a huge part of the game. Insomniac Games really outdid themselves with both of these releases.
How Are They Connected?
This is very simple. The connection between the two games is that they are set in the same world and that the original game also doubles as an origin story for Miles. The second game simply picks up where the first one left off, except Miles is in charge now (with Peter’s assistance, of course).
Wrapping Up
And there you have it! All of your questions have been answered. Based on the previously made points, you are sure to enjoy both of the games no matter which one you choose, but we recommend you start with the first one. Good luck!
