How To No Name On Steam
Creating an invisible name on Steam is done by using uni-code characters. In the steam application these characters do not show making your username “invisible”. You cannot just use zero characters in your name as Steam will not allow this.
Follow the steps below to create an invisible name:
- Open the Steam application on your computer
- Click on your profile name in the top right hand corner. From the dropdown select “View My Profile”.
- In your profile click on Edit Profile
- Go to this Paste Bin link. In the raw Paste data section right click and click on “Select All”. Then right click again and click copy.
- Once you have copied from the paste bin paste in the “Profile Name” box on the edit profile page. It will appear as if there is nothing in the box. Scroll down and click on save.
Now when you go to your Steam profile it will appear as if your name is blank like my profile below.

Now you can appear as a ghost on Steam. Your friends will likely wonder what on earth happened to your profile. Other than using it as a troll or to look stealthy there is no real benefit to no naming on Steam.
Can You No Name On Steam Group Chats?
Yes, you can also use the invisible characters on Steam group chats. Follow the steps below to create an invisible name Steam group chat.
- Open the Steam application on your computer
- Go to Friends & Chat in the bottom right hand corner
- Scroll down to groups and click on the create group icon to create a new group
- Go to this Paste Bin link. In the raw Paste data section right click and click on “Select All”. Then right click again and click copy.
- Go back to the group chat and paste the invisible text in the chat name section.
- Select the friends that you want to add to the group and click on create chat with friends.
You will now have a group chat with an invisible name.
Using Unicode To Create Taken Groups
If you want to create a group on Steam community but the name is taken you can use uni-code to create an invisible section at the end of the name.
For example if you wanted the group name “Gamers” but it is already taken you can create a groups called “Gamers [Unicode text]” the unicode text obviously will not show up.
This is a great way to get a group name on Steam that is already taken.
Why Won’t Steam Let Me Change My Name?
If you have changed your name too many times in quick succession steam will put you on a cooldown. This means that you will not be able to change your name again for 10 – 30 Minutes. Once this cooldown expires you will be able to change your name again.
