Being Normal in Pokemon Go
At first glance, the “Normal” type (or group) might get some confusion (and we’re not talking about the Pokemon move). If you take it out of context, new players might find the “Pokémon normal-type weakness” term distracting or weird.
Unlike many video games or common sense, no unusual or abnormal group encloses the rest of the Pokemon. In the “Poke” world, Normal is another type of Pokemon with pros and cons. Although, there’s no outstanding characteristic that outlines the Normal type. For example, not all Normal Pokemon look like “Normal” animals (from our world) or do “Normal” attacks.
However, you’ll find special “Normal” Pokemon with good utility in the Pokemon Go handheld game. In this article, we’ll discuss the regular and unusual ways of the Normal Pokemon.
Pokemon Go: Normal Type Pokemon Weaknesses
Being “Normal” in the Pokemon GO world has a good and a bad side. This group has unique characteristics, unlike the Normal type weakness Pokemon Violet counterpart.
Pokemon Normal Type Advantages
At first glance, the Normal group has almost no advantages from the rest of the crew. However, there’s one meaningful change in the Pokemon Go mechanics. Originally, the Ghost and Normal Pokemon had immunity against each other.
Many of the Normal moves (besides Odor Sleuth and Foresight) had no effect against the Ghost-type Pokemon. However, in Pokemon Go, instead of total immunity from your attacks, you get 0.39x damage from Ghost. In other words, you get around 60% damage from Ghost-type moves.
Above all, the Pokemon Normal Type advantages do not extend beyond that. All the other types of Pokemon do the accustomed 100% damage from their Normal-type moves. Hence, you can place all the Normal Pokemon in a “Neutral” group where you have almost no (except from Ghost) advantages move-wise.
The “hidden” numbers or attributes add that extra “flavor” to the Normal-type Pokemon. For example, Snorlax gets enough Health Points for many upcoming attacks. However, in Pokemon Go, you lose the “cheese” strategies with Rest (a Psychic-type move) and restore your health in a fight.
Pokemon Normal Type Weaknesses
Once you learn about the Pokémon Normal-type weakness, you’ll understand why this group struggles in the franchise series. First, following the special bond with the Ghost-type Pokemon, they get 60% damage from the Normal-type moves. When these groups fight each other, the encounter extends for more turns (or time in Pokemon Go).
Secondly, the Normal-type Pokemon are “Not Very Effective” against Rock and Steel (by 0.6x). Many of your attacks barely make scratches to these types of Pokemon. Sadly, many “META” (favored by the community) Pokemon are either Rock or Steel types in the PvP (Player versus Player) mode.
Lastly, this group receives 1.6x Damage from Fighting-type Pokemon making it the strongest Normal Pokémon Weakness. When you see a Hitmonlee on your screen, take your Normal-type Pokemon out of the battle.
META Pokemon like Terrakion (Rock/Fighting) can easily purge the Normal-type Pokemons out of existence Plan your strategy carefully, you can choose other Pokemon in a single encounter. For example, a Mewtwo or Kyogre can send Terrakion back to their Pokeball ASAP.
What are Normal Type Weak Against in Gyms?
After taking all the precious data, you’ll realize different strategies for Normal-type Pokemon in Gyms. In Pokemon Go, you have three activities when you visit one Gym that interact with Pokemon types.
- Attacking a Gym: You use your Pokemon to debilitate or knock out a Pokemon defending another faction’s Gym. Using your Normal-type Pokemon might not be the best option. Instead, you should favor stronger Pokemon from your account.
- Defending a Gym: Place a Pokemon in the Gym and defend the virtual place with your faction. Using Normal Pokemon might benefit the Gym’s defense. Due to those extra attribute points, you can leave a high HP Pokemon (like Snorlax) and farm more PokeCoins.
- Participating in Raids: Use your strongest Pokemon to defeat a “boss-like” Pokemon and win a chance to capture the head honcho. One of the strongest strategies in Raids is using effective Pokemon against the Raid Boss. Since Normal-type Pokemon have no advantages, you should use better options for these events.
What are Pokemon Normal Type Strong Against in PvP?
Many players use unique strategies when they participate in PvP Leagues. Using Normal-type Pokemon can lead to different outcomes.
You can change into a Normal-type Pokemon and create a “fake” confidence in your opponent. In the middle of the battle, you can surprise the enemy with “Giga Impact” and knock out their Pokemon.
Playing PvP casually is chaotic and makes things a lot funnier. When you reach the top Leagues, we recommend leaning toward the META. Many players will use OP (OverPowered) Pokemon and might take your Normal-type Pokemon out of the battle.
Weakest Normal Type Pokemon GO
Like any other version of the famous gaming franchise, the weakest Pokemon is the first of three evolutions. For example, Slakoth usually appears with low attributes, but they can turn into beasts (literally) when they evolve into Slaking. Additionally, you’ll need fewer resources (Stardust and Candy) to power up the Pokemon.
Handheld Counterparts
Unlike the simplified gaming mechanics in Pokemon GO, you have more versatility in the “regular” games from the franchise. For example, instead of exploiting the Poison Type weakness Pokemon Scarlet directly, you can throw a Normal-type to guard your team. Throw Revives and Potions as your Snorlax tanks their offensive.
Furthermore, the latest PvP modes let you “release” two Pokemon in the arena. As a result, you can enhance the coercion between your crew.
Above all, Normal-type Pokemon give more variety to Pokemon Go. You have more ways to use your favorite Pokemon in different events.
Wrapping Up
Normal-type Pokemon have too many lows and ups. However, if your favorite Pokemon belongs to this group, you still have ways to take advantage of your partner. Pick your battles accordingly and enhance the Normal-type Pokemon with attacks such as “Hidden Power” and “Giga Impact.”
Remember that Normal-type Pokemon come with outstanding attributes. Many players use their high HP to defend Gyms and withstand powerful attacks.
