Even though there is no full version of this interesting sport in the game, you can still feel the same way as Ronald Weasley by attempting the Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle. The rules of this puzzle are simple: examine the chess board settings, transform a nearby object, and use your pawn to checkmate the king. The only problem is that each puzzle is unique, and your pawns are randomly generated, ranging from Knights to Bishops. Next, we will discuss all three chess puzzles, their locations, and how to solve each of them to get your collection chest:
Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle Marunweem lake:
You can find the Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault right next to the lake. Simply start at the Floo Flame and go around the small cliff in the southwest direction to locate the cave’s entrance. Beware, there are several levels of 20-40 poachers in this area, so make sure you are properly equipped for a duel. Once you reach the cave’s entrance, use Revelio to locate the pressure plate.
Next, turn right and follow the path to a nearby poacher camp, where you will find a small stone cube locked behind a level 3 door. After releasing the cube, use Accio to guide it back to the cave and gently lower it on the pressure plate. Finally, hit the cube with the Glacius spell to open the cave’s entrance and make your way to the chess board inside.
Once you are inside the large hall, cast Revelio to locate a nearby table and use the Transfiguration spell to transform it into a pawn. Finally, use Wingardium Leviosa to guide the pawn to the right box and win the game with a checkmate to reveal the treasure chest.
- Knight: If you got the Knight, then place it in one space behind the white king.
- Bishop: The Bishop can checkmate the King if you place it two spaces behind the white king.
Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle Cragcroft:
This next Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle cave is located at the foot of the hills near the spider lair. The fastest way to reach this cave is to go northwest from the Cragcroft Floo Flame on your Broom (or mount). Once you find the entrance and the pressure plate, turn right and go around the small cliff to find the stone cube. Finally, guide the cube back to the pressure plate and hit it with a fire spell (Confringo or Incendio) to open the vault’s entrance.
Next, follow the small path to enter the large hall with the chess board puzzle Hogwarts Legacy. Cast the Revelio spell to locate a nearby Hogwarts Legacy vase chess puzzle and transform it using the Transfiguration spell.

While standing at the cave’s entrance, use the Revelio spell to locate two rotatable levers. Next, rotate both the levers with the Depulso spell 3 or 4 times each until they lock in place to open the vault’s entrance. Finally, proceed inside the cave and follow the path until you reach the large hall.
For this next puzzle, you must find and transform a Hogwarts Legacy chess puzzle chair to get your pawn. This chess board is a mind-scratcher, especially if you don’t know the game very well. We got a Bishop in this challenge, so we got our checkmate by placing the pawn in the third column and second row from the right. Secondly, the opponent’s king is so well-placed that the checkmate is only possible by one specific move for each pawn. Overall, you won’t have any trouble getting to your treasure chest as long as you stick to our guidelines.
