Rodrigo Velloso, former director of gaming video content at YouTube, has been named Twitter’s new director of gaming partnerships, according to Variety. With this new position, Twitter plans on strengthening relationships with its gamer community and providing more resources and opportunities for prominent figures in the industry such as eSports athletes and convention organizers.
While we can’t know exactly what this new partnership will mean, we do have one example already: The Game Awards. Twitter partnered with the awards to provide video-clipping support, event promotion, and more.
“I want to work with content creators and give them the tools, or in some cases build them the tools, to allow them to produce the best content,” Velloso said to Variety.
That social media outlets are paying attention to gaming isn’t too surprising, given the strength, numbers, and volume of gamers online. YouTube launched YouTube Red specifically for gamers just a few months ago.
