A new Fallout 4 mod is coming from an unusual source. Nvidia, a graphics card manufacturer, is releasing their own mod, called Vault 1080. The mod has its own quest line that revolves around the vault and what sounds like a cult, and it also upgrades the graphics of the game.
Specifically, the mod makes the lighting and shadows more realistic and adds weapon debris and new meshes and materials. The lighting and shadows upgrades were done using their horizon based occlusion plus (HBAO+) technology, which “creates authentic depths anywhere a light source is blocked, no matter how small or fleeting.”
The company says that the graphics upgrades are essential to the effectiveness of the new storyline, and that they help set the mood of the experience. Players will have to travel to a fog-shrouded church that they can only get to through dangerous marshland.
Once in the church, you’ll have to find the entrance to Vault 1080, which is full of dark, intimidating tunnels. The congregation living there has “embraced the darkness and sickness, and they’ve done it - so they believe to survive. But is the whole thing built on lies? The truth is deep within Vault 1080, through a whole lot of fearful mystery. Find it and decide for yourself whether the monsters deserve their salvation… or not.”
You can grab Nvidia’s Valut 1080 mod for PC on September 2, 2016 at Bethesda.net.
