No Man’s Sky is officially launching on June 21st. The Managing Director of Hello Games, the developers of the game, Sean Murray posted the news on the PlayStation Blog. He also confirmed what many expectant fans may have already guessed, that the game will be getting a Blu-ray retail version.
Murray expressed his excitement and wonder that his small indie studio will be getting a retail version. “I remember when I sat in the audience and saw Sony putting LittleBigPlanet on stage for the first time, I knew that it no longer mattered how many people worked on your game, and that not every game had to start with a 10-minute CGI cut scene. I can’t believe we’re about to follow in their footsteps as an even smaller studio with their game in real, actual shops.”
What’s more, the game will actually be getting two different limited editions. The PS4 limited edition will come with an art book, a comic, and extras like a Dynamic Theme.
They also created an “Explorer’s Edition” that’s exclusively for the PC version of the game. That limited edition comes with a hand-painted metal replica of the ship, some exclusive goodies and a digital copy of the game on Steam or GOG all for $149.99.
No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival in a completely open and infinite universe that is procedurally generated. You can go anywhere in the game, from the distant mountain you see to any star in the sky. You will be able to catalogue new forms of life and find ancient artifacts that could reveal the secrets of the universe. As you discover, you can keep your knowledge to yourself or share it with other players.
But you’ll have to be careful as you explore. Your space suit and your ship are fragile. The new creatures you see could be hostile and dangerous, and each new environment will test your skills to survive. From space battles to first-person combat on the surface, every victory and every defeat could have lasting consequences.
