Marvel Entertainment is teaming up with Square Enix for a “multi-year, multi-game” agreement to develop and publish games based on Marvel Super Heroes. The first franchise the team is undertaking is The Avengers.
Crystal Dynamics, who created the Tomb Raider series, and Eidos-Montreal, who created the Deus Ex series, will be developing the first game in the Avengers series. The Avengers games are supposed to be “packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise.”
But besides these promises, Marvel and Square Enix have released very few other details. The team says that they will be unveiling more details in 2018 about The Avengers project and other games.
Marvel did release a teaser trailer along with the partnership announcement, which gives the viewers very obvious hints that Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk will be included in the game. The trailer also shows that the super heroes will need to “reassemble,” hinting at a story that begins with the Avengers team fractured and scattered across the globe.
Phil Rogers, the CEO of Square Enix, was very excited about the partnership, saying, ““Marvel’s diverse, innovative universe has created millions of longtime fans, including all of us. It’s exciting to bring together Square Enix’s award-winning development studios with Marvel’s extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse. This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before.”
