Indie Game Spotlight: Charming Adventure Game Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet

Nelly Cootalot, pirate, is the heroine of this very British point-and-click adventure game. The ghost of William Bloodbeard, her mentor, comes to her to warn her about the machinations of his brother, Baron Widebeard. It seems he’s got some evil plan that revolves around hypnotizing birds.

She’ll need to travel from Port Rubicund in the South Seas all the way to the island of Gloomholm in the icy north. You’ll need to help her solve puzzles and investigate to figure out just what the Baron is plotting so that she can stop him.

As she travels, she’ll be accompanied by her sidekick Sebastian, voiced by the great Tom Baker of Doctor Who fame. Along her way she will also meet quirky and outlandish characters and help adorable and endangered creatures.

Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet was developed by stand up comedian Alasdair Beckett-King and was successfully funded on Kickstarter. The game was just recently released, and so far it is garnering praise from reviewers. John Walker who writes for Rock, Paper, Shotgun said, “The overall result is a delightful, charming, and relaxing affair. It’s a Sunday afternoon television of a game, and goodness me, does that have a place. It’s funny, daft, and the look is incessantly fantastic… And it’s got Tom Baker in it. I had a thoroughly lovely time.”

This is actually the second Nelly Cootalot game. The first was a free game called Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! in which she has to face the nefarious Baron Widebeard and investigate the disappearance of a flock of spoonbeaks. You can download the game for free here.

You can grab Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet on Steam for $19.99, and it’s available for PC, Mac, and Linux.
