GameTrailers, one of the trailblazers of online video game trailers, announced on Twitter that it is shutting down for good. This comes after the site was sold to Defy Media in 2014, after which many of the staff were laid off.
After 13 years, GameTrailers is closing down today. Thank you for your continued support over the years. It has been an adventure.

Today is the last day of GameTrailers. I wish it wasn’t so. I love all of our fans like family. Thank you for letting me do this job.

The site has been running for 13 years. And while it’s had a lot of competition from sites like YouTube and Twitch, the company was trying to keep up with their own presence on both Twitch and YouTube, while also updating their own video platform. Besides featuring video game trailers, they also reviewed games, previewed games, had exclusive content, and posted breaking news.
For their last stream, the GameTrailers team played Grand Theft Auto III, because it was the first game “captured” by GameTrailers, and they wanted it to be the last thing the company streamed as well.
