Diablo Patch 2.4 is Basically an Expansion

Diablo 3 patch 2.4 is looking a lot like a new expansion. Diablo community official Brandy “Nevalistis” Camel posted to battlenet with details about the patch, which will be released sometime this week.

The first big addition that patch 2.4 is adding to the game is Greyhollow Island, a whole new zone. It’s designed for multiple playthroughs in Adventure Mode. Blizzard promises mysteries to solve on the island, as well. A separate blog post about the island describes it in more detail:

“The sting of sea salt burns your eyes, adding insult to injury as an endless storm rages on. The memory of countless ships dashed upon jagged shores is fresh in your mind as a streak of lightning cracks across the sky, briefly illuminating the dense forest that surrounds you. The heavy scent of pine and sodden earth is interrupted by the sickly sweet note of decay, and a thousand flickering eyes in the distance serve as warning—if the madness of Greyhollow Island does not take you first, the beasts surely will.”

The island is also based on the Pacific Northwest, which is a neat tidbit for players like me who’ve lived their whole lives here.

Along with Greyhollow Island, the patch will introduce special dungeons that offer specific equipment rewards and corresponding portals. New legendary items and powers outside of the dungeons will also appear.

The blog post mentions a few familiar areas that could have new story points and quests, as well; for example, the remnants of the coven have moved in to King Leoric’s old manor. To the east of Sescheron is the Eternal Woods, which is evidently filled with yetis.
