Dark Souls Board Game Promises A Lot of Death

Dark Souls, a notoriously difficult video game series, is coming to the tabletop sphere. Steamforged Games announced new details about their Dark Souls Board Game in advance of their planned Kickstarter.

Steamforged promises a “brutally hard exploration miniatures game for 1-4 players. Prepare to die. Because this will be the hardest board game you have ever played.”

They say the game will be quick to set up but will have a slow reveal process, meaning players will be able to jump right into the game, which will build the location around you as you explore. As you discover new locations, you’ll find new monsters that you’ll have to fight. Because of the combat mechanics, you’ll need to manage your stamina and figure out enemy behavior systems in order to survive.

For their monsters, they will be drawing on both old favorites from the previous games as well as new enemies from Dark Souls 3. So far they’ve revealed two: Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough.

The game is promised to ship with numerous boss and mini-boss encounters. Each enemy encounter is supposed to be unique, thanks to their “innovative behavior mechanic.”

The Kickstarter launches April 19th. Steamforged has previously successfully Kickstarted a fantasy medieval soccer board game called Guild Ball.
