“Twitch Plays” events are getting their own dedicated directory on Twitch. The popularity of Twitch Plays events are noteworthy-Twitch Plays Pokemon, which started in 2014, had thousands of players contributing to play the game.
“The Twitch community has consistently rallied behind organically created Twitch Plays games, with the trend growing rather than subsiding,” Twitch Developer Success executive Kathy Astromoff announced in a press release. “Making it easier for prospective players to find Twitch Plays games drives developer success, and encourages new developers to begin experimenting.”
Twitch Plays games must use Twitch as their primary means of delivering content, and cannot put a cap on the number of players contributing to the stream. Games that use audience commands from Twitch chat or that use second screen interfaces (like a smartphone) will be eligible for the Twitch Plays category.
Current Twitch Plays events include Twitch Plays Dark Souls and the Punch Club promo event-if Twitch can successfully beat Punch Club this month, TinyBuild will release the game early. And, of course, Twitch Plays Pokemon is still ongoing.
