Blizzcon’s Hearthstone Exhibitions Feature Big-Name Poker Players

Among the many attractions at this weekend’s Blizzcon is the Hearthstone World Championships.

The World Championships pits 8 players against each other in an elimination stage, hosted by Rachel Quirico of CSA. Quirico also hosted last year’s Hearthstone Championships, and streams on Twitch.tv under the name Seltzer.

Aside from the Championships, there will be two special exhibitions on Friday, November 6.

One of the exhibitions will be a Hearthstone showdown between two professional gamers of another kind: poker players Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier. Grospellier is a poker Triple Crown winner, having taken top spots in the European Poker Tour, the World Series of Poker, and the World Poker Tour. He is also a former professional Starcraft player, so no stranger to Blizzard or the competitive gaming scene.

Negreanu is in the Poker Hall of Fame, and has been Player of the Year twice in the World Series of Poker, and once in the World Poker Tour. He is poker’s top tournament money winner as well.

Grospellier reportedly plays with a golden Warlock deck, while Negreanu has a golden Mage. Their match happens at 2:45 PM PST on Friday

The second exhibition is called Challengestone, and is a deck-building competition. This happens at 3:30 PM PST on Friday. All of the matches and exhibitions will be broadcast on Hearthstone’s Twitch channel.
