Overwatch’s Next Seasonal Event Celebrates the Chinese New Year

Hard on the heels of Overwatch‘s successful and fun Winter Wonderland event, Blizzard has announced their newest Seasonal Event called the Year of the Rooster.

There was a lot of speculation that Overwatch would be doing a Valentine’s Day event, and perhaps confirm a couple of fan ships of the characters. But Blizzard decided to instead do an event honoring the Chinese New Year.

We don’t know much about the event, except that it starts on January 24, 2017. We do know that Mei is definitely getting a new skin, which is pretty exciting. Thanks to the Korean Overwatch Twitter account, we also know that D.Va is getting a new skin as well for the event.

The start date of the event is just days away, so it will be interesting to see if Blizzard releases more details before the event launches, or if this time they simply let everything be a surprise.

We do know that there should be more than just some fun skins, thanks to a Blizzard spokesperson who confirmed to Polygon that the Year of the Rooster Seasonal Event will have new elements that are in line with what we’ve seen from previous Seasonal Events. So we will probably be treated to new sprays, voice lines, emotes, skins and hopefully a new gameplay mode.
