The team behind Minecraft announced on the Xbox Wire that they will be releasing free mini games for Minecraft: Console Edition. The first mini game, which is slated to be released in June, is called Battle.
Battle lets players enter into a competitive multiplayer arena and, well, battle. You’ll be using randomly generate resources found in chests. The specifically designed PVP maps will have the chests scattered around them, and you’ll need to scramble to grab a chest before anyone else, and then fight until there’s only one player standing.
If you die while playing, you can still spectate the game, so you’re not completely out of the experience, which is nice. The Battle mode can be used with four players on a split screen or with up to eight players online via Xbox Live. There will also be an in-game matchmaking system.
The free mini-game will include three Battle maps, but if you’re hankering for more maps, they are available for purchase in packs that will be released periodically and will cost $2.99 USD. The developers say that there will be more mini games coming, but they haven’t released any details about those yet.
