Marvel’s ‘Women of Power’ Event Adds Tons of Female Characters to their Video Games

March is Women’s History Month, and Marvel Games is helping celebrate in a big way. They are kicking off their ‘Women of Power’ event on Thursday, March 3, which will bring tons of their female characters to video games.

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers will be releasing a pack of downloadable content later this month for their console and handheld games that will add characters like Captain Marvel, fan favorite Moonstone, and the super villain Poundcakes.

Marvel Contest of Champions will feature a new event quest involving Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), and will also be able to add to their team amazing superheroes like She-Hulk, X-23, and Ms. Marvel herself.

The mobile game Marvel Puzzle Quest will be unveiling ‘Women of Power’ variant comic covers. Mobile games Spider-Man Unlimited and Marvel Future Fight now have a special event which will feature female characters.

Marvel’s Director of Content and Character Development Sana Amanat talked to Entertainment Weekly about why Marvel put together this event.

“The reason we do this is because we live and breathe the Marvel mantra: with great power comes great responsibility. And we view our power in Marvel games as storytelling. Our responsibility is to use that power to embrace and spread Marvel’s historic and ongoing message of diversity and inclusion and inspiration and empowerment. We’re getting to a point where people just want to see really great characters and powerful characters up there, and it doesn’t matter what their gender is. We are not going out there and painting our characters with one color, with one style. What makes the Marvel universe so rich is all of these variances and different perspectives, and a lot of that has to do with showcasing different experiences but some of that is just showing distinct character and personalities.”

As part of the ‘Women of Power’ initiative, Marvel’s Publishing division will also be releasing 25 new comic covers featuring Marvel’s most popular female characters. Marvel will also be launching new product lines celebrating female superheroes. For the full details of the additions to the Marvel Games, you can check out Marvel’s website.
