Don’t Starve Together Officially Out With Biome Variation Features

Don’t Starve Together has been in early access on Steam, and is now officially out. The game is similar to the original Don’t Starve, but for this standalone, you can play with friends!

The wilderness survival game drops you into an uncompromising world with strange creatures and monsters. To survive, you’ll need to craft and gather resources. For Don’t Starve Together, you’ll have the option to play together with friends in a private game or take your chances with strangers online, knowing they’ll all probably stab you in the back just to survive.

Don’t Starve Together includes Reign of Giants, which adds new creatures, characters, seasons, biomes, and new giant challenges.

While it is now officially out, the team at Klei Entertainment will still be working on new features for the game. Through the Ages is their next planned expansion, one that will make the world evolve over time with more variation between worlds.

Though Through the Ages will take time to develop, they have included some basic aspects of that expansion into Don’t Starve Together. Right now there are small variations in the basic biomes, which will make every generation feel a bit different. Those variations will also change  as you play through the seasons.

Meanwhile their single-player Don’t Starve has recently gotten the Shipwrecked expansion, which lets players set sail to new lands, and is set in a tropical biome with new creatures and challenges. Klei Entertainment doesn’t have any concrete plans to bring this expansion to Don’t Starve Together, because it was built without DST in mind. So their team will need to figure out what it will need to evaluate how much effort it would take to bring it to DST and if it’s worth it to do so.

Don’t Starve Together is available on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux for $14.99. They are currently working on bringing the game to the PS4 as well.
